Honestly, I am not even interested in that discussion again. It has been hashed and rehashed in several threads.

Yard full o' rocks :

Morning all....my first hatch is COMPLETE. Hatched 3 for 3 of my Columbian Rock LF from the Canadian trio!! Last one just hatched and is drying off. Will be placing them in the brooder by lunchtime. I also hatched 7 for 9 of the line from Ohio...giving these to a friend to work with.

I candled 9 yesterday that were at the 1 week stage and all are developing nicely. Also set an additional 6 yesterday. These 15 are all from the trio.

Once all these hatch, I'll be setting up individual breeding pens so I can keep up with dam of each hatch. I wanted to get some numbers on the ground first, just to make sure I had something growing out in the event something happened to the parents

I will also be mating the Canadian cockerel to the best two pullets (for size, shape, color, undercolor and tail) from the Ohio strain in order to develop a little genetic diversity.

So far, things are looking good for 2011. Praying for an early and PROLONGED Spring. Not looking forward to Summer at all, BUT, winter can head on outta here.

Here is a pix of my "hatching buddy" and a shot of the babies in the brooder

I think that I'll finally post on here. I have one BR pullet, Pepper (orginal?

), who is almost 10 months old. She lays light brown, small eggs with tiny white specks on them. She is a true sweetheart and loves to be held. I like to call her "the survivor", since she's survived cocci, gotten right through a dry fowl pox without a problem and a limping leg that heeled itself- still not sure how. I am hoping to get some more rocks in the Spring. Maybe from speckledhen if she has any leftover.

Peps Nick you should see how far you live from Scott. He needs some partners with his Plymouth Rocks. This would be a good way to get some more to go with the one you have left.

He has the best Columbian Plymouth Rock Large Fowl in the USA and he would be a good person to work with. bob

Hi all Plymouth Rock threaders

I'm enjoying this thread and the one on the heritage large breeds which has great links to the old books with beautiful illustrations.
Below I'm sharing pics of my small flock of silver-penciled PR. Just 3 hens and a rooster. The pics were taken before winter set in. It is really cold on Prince Edward Island today. Windchill of -20. Last night windgusts of 90 km/h. Blew down some big old spruce trees in my lane!
Anyway, checked chickens this morning and they are fine. No heat in their City Biddy chicken house (3 ft x 3ft floor) but they roost together on a 2 x 4 and when I let them into their small covered pen to eat in the daytime, they are happy to see me. They got warm oatmeal and cooked bacon rinds this morning, along with their usual laying feed. I'm getting one egg per day right now, so each of the 3 hens are laying about 3 days apart, even with the cold and the short days. I'd love to see other pictures of silver penciled PRs.

Where did you guys get your stock?

They hail out of the same line (more or less) Warren Simm(maybe it's simms can't remember) i have no clue where he finds his stock... I just know he has the best stock around in; Gold laced wyanndote, New Hampshire's, i think all colours of Rocks, and others.
