Plymouth Rock thread!

I've a question for those with the very fine, and simply beautiful, barred. Is it inherent to this line to have less leg yellow? Are these descendents of the Thompson Ringlet line?

I've got 3 Barred Rocks, a cockerel and 2 pullets- they are all 18-20 weeks old.

Here's Misteroo, he came from my neighbors, they didn't want a roo and he was a freebie in their order-

Here are my two pullets-

Misteroo just started chasing the pullets, definitely not suave yet. He'd be well off to take a few lessons from my BCM cockerel, who's a bit older and much more of a gentlemen with the hens. The two of them seem to get along fine so far, so hopefully that will continue.

I've also got a Partridge Rock and a White Rock

I have BRs (in large fowl) that are decendants of the EB Thompson line but the legs on mine are very yellow, especially the cockerels. My pullets have a bit of "wash" down the front of their shanks, but overall color is still yellow. It will fade a bit I'm sure when the pullets begin laying.

To further answer your question, I have not regularly seen an "exhibition type" BR with lighter yellow legs.

Thanks Rocks,

I was wondering as to the few pictures posted on previous page look like ringlets but look to have washed out leg coloring. Could be the lighting of photo.

Hi all

I love looking at pics of your chickens. Especially cherylcohen's sppr.

I only have a small flock. I was hoping for more, but Mrs Fox got all but one hen this spring. I managed to hatch out 6 of her eggs and now have 2 pullets and 4 roosters, plus the mama.

I plan to keep the mama, two pullets and two of the roosters through the winter and try to increase the flock next spring. There is no genetic diversity, but will see how it goes.
