We started with our chicks from Tractor Supply in April. By September they were laying and producing a great number of eggs. We have fourteen girls and get 8-11 eggs a day; mostly on the high end. A couple were late bloomers and have just started. Amazed at the size of our eggs as Plymouth's were listed as med-lg. About half our eggs end up extra lg. and a couple of Jumbo double-yolkers. They have a nice area to roam though we live "in-town" on half acre lot.

Popeye is a bit worried about winter approaching. Olive Oyl grew up in Vermont and had chickens that survived "just fine". Nice to read all the other experiences and look forward to continued sharing online.

Hello and welcome to BYC

Chickens wear a nice, warm feather duvet all the time and I read the other day that they can move each feather individually to ensure they get the most out of it. So don't worry! As long as they have a nice, draught-free but well ventilated coop they'll be fine.

! I agree with sumi - as long os the coop doesn't have winds racing through it they will be fine. Maybe put in some extra bedding material - shaving or straw - they will be just fine!
