Plz Help. Is my chick a he or she?

Is that only with pullets and cockerels, and evens out with adults? Is there an age range that is 'fixes' itself, I've never heard of that before.

I can check my cochins tomorrow.

The judges would say you can use it any time but most people will never use it with adults because there's obvious differences. One crows one lay eggs. Comb or wattle is also another common one. The other ways is the shape of hackle/neck feathers, shape of the saddle feathers, shape of the tail covert/sickle feathers. I can show a picture of my 12 year old cochin's wing tomorrow to show you how it can be used for older hens. The one draw back to this method of wing sexing is it requires the chicken to have feathers in. Though I know there's another sort of wing sexing for day old chicks but I can't remember though if it's similar to this or different.

How reliable is it accuracy wise?

For me it's been very accurate and helps with chicks once they have feathers. Though I just learned the wing sexing for day old chicks which I would like to test to see how accurate it is. The day old wing sexing is based on the primary feathers instead of secondary feathers.

Here are pictures of the wing of my bird in question. (Lol) He is such a busy chicken.

Both pictures are of the same bird in question. Is she a he or did I get lucky with 2 she chickens. Lol

Feathering also suggests one is male...
Females feather faster more evenly, in most breeds, and like all other traits has exceptions.
