Anyone have luck bringing a chicken back from pneumonia? I noticed my hen was adjusting her crop and shaking her head a lot. Then I noticed her ear lobes were swollen and crusty.. I thought she just had an ear infection or mites but when I brought her into the vet, they did x rays and said her lungs were filled with fluid.

They injected her with antibiotics (Oxytetracycline), Metoclopramide, a b vitamin complex and gave me some antibiotics and the Metoclopramide to give her at home. The vet didn’t seem hopeful, said she might have 2-3 days if the meds don’t work.

Her comb is still red, she’s pooping so I’m assuming she’s eating (I didn’t get a chance to watch her because I brought her in as soon as I saw she was off and then we got back from the vet after 9pm and she was sleeping so I just left her in the crate for the night). I’m going to watch her closely tomorrow and continue with her meds.

Everything I’m reading online about pneumonia in chickens sounds pretty grim. And now I’m worried about the rest of my flock even though they seem fine. Does anyone have any success stories or tips for sick girl? 😞
