Poison in yard for fleas

wow... My poor Dog... I de-flead the yard... bathed him.... still fleas.. I dipped him... still fleas... I put frontline between his shoulders.... still fleas.... I sprayed him with ADAMS and put a cheap flea collar on him.... NO FLEAS.. the fleas were so so bad that it took all of this within 3 days to get the problem under control... He is much happier now... I have diatamatious Earth for the chickens but with all this rain their coop is flooded and they are all walking around with their skirts lifted up.... so the diatamatious Earth washed away too... I put some in their Hen House too..

For flea control and other biting bugs, spray 1/2 cup lemon scented dishwashing soap, 1 cup lemon scented ammonia in a 20 gallon hose end sprayer over 2500 sq feet. The bugs cannot stand stand the lemon and will vacate the area. Might take a couple of sprayings a few days apart to clear the area. But safe and no poisons to worry about.

Casey3043 - a vet asst. actually suggested the Advantix...of course I still have $150 or so worth of Frontline Plus left over...

Bedste - Haha!! I got desperate and bought some Adams too!! And it has helped, but they HATE it, especially the cats. Who would have thought the cheap stuff would work better???? (not that it's all THAT cheap)

mdbokc- When I flea comb my cats, I do put dishwashing liquid in the container where I put the fleas I comb off...they die almost instantly. But I'd never thought of spraying it around the yard...that's something I will have to try!!!

And I would think that THAT mixture shouldn't affect chickens Bedste...so maybe you could try that too...

I have used dawn dish soap on the cats and dogs it was working but also used Adams.spray flea and tick.
I read some here on the byc that it can be sude to spray the hens anyone heard of that I havent tried it.I have been using
pemectrin dust.from the local co-op

You might try also try one of the products for your yard that include nematodes that prey on flea larvae. They're totally safe as the nematodes only eat fleas and they help break up the life cycle of the fleas. Just make sure that when you treat the lawn, you treat all of your house (flea-bombs work well). Otherwise the fleas and flea larvae will just be transferred from the house to the lawn. Don't forget to read the instructions on the box of nematodes, if you get them. They do best under certain conditions (some moisture in the soil, etc.).
Spraying the lawn with the detergent mix, treating with the nematodes after that (don't want to kill them), and flea-bombing the house sounds like a good combination to me. Also anything that you can do to keep other critters off your property that might bring fleas back in, such as feral cats, dogs, coyotes, etc.
FYI, vacuuming carpet will just make the flea problem worse (temporarily). One vet told me that the vibrations from the vacuum stimulated the fleas to come to the top of the carpet and jump on the first critter that comes by (ugh!!!).
Good luck with them! I grew up in a city that was literally built on a swamp (Houston) and they were always horrible there!
