Like everyone else, I am concerned about my chickens, the only critter on the farm that has questionable shelter in the face of these types of temperatures.
They have a three sided, uninsulated, metal barn about 16ft X 24ft, 8 ft tall. The barn's open wall faces north on a heavily wooded lot. We do have some hay on the floor in there, we added a tarp over half of the barn opening to help ward off wind and rain/snow.
The question is, is this enough? Is there some easily attainable means that I could quickly put together to help them, or am I just being excessively concerned? I am in North Texas, and I am sure everyone in Texas with chickens will be asking the same questions since this is not our norm. When we put the coop together, we were more concerned with our Texas heat, of course.
