Polish breeders....What happens when you cross a...?

He does look more like a splash in your other pictures. And he really does look all blue to me in your first! But I bet he really is just a white crested blue, just not exactly true to standard.

He probably just has a lot of blue in the crest (a common fault) and a few darker blue feathers leaking in through lighter blue feathers. WC blue, just not show quality WC blue. I have a couple of wc blue hens that are too light and have a few darker feathers leaking through. That could totally be what is up w/your boy. I say breed him to a wc black...see what you get...if you get blue and black, you've got a wc blue. If you get 100% blue, he's splash. But now I really think wc blue...especially if Ideal just sells wc blue.

I don't even know for sure if self-blue exists in Polish... ??? That's just what he looked like in that first shot!

As soon as his new crest feathers are through I'll post another picture. I bet they will come in with white.

So basically the answer to my question (TubbyChicken posted it for me so we're not hijacking lol) is to breed him with a white crested black, to get blues or splashes and blues, and/or to breed him with other colors and get a fun surprise?

I'm excited about fun surprises!

Too bad it will be awhile, because no one is laying yet, and especially because I don't have an incubator! I have my fingers crossed for a broody hen at some point. Or maybe I can get someone nearby to hatch them for me this summer...

I agree that the first pic he does look blue...when I've seen him in person though he looks way more splash. I can't wait to see what happens when he breeds!

Just so I'm understanding this...Splash to WCB = all WC Blue?! and white isn't a real color? It's just hiding "real" color so who knows what a splash to white could produce?!

I bred a White Crested Splash cuckoo Male to a White (silver laced) female. And all the offspring turned out to be white crested Cuckoo.

I think a White Crested Splash and White crested cuckoo breeding turns out very pretty.
