Hello! My mom really loves the Polish chicken breed, and I was wondering if someone with experience with the breed might want to share some information on where is the best place to order them, and if there are any fun and useful facts. I do own some fancy breeds, but nothing as extravagant as a Polish. I thought maybe this spring I could order some as a nice suprise for her (I'd be raising them, she's not exactly a hands on animal person anymore).

I love Polish chicken!

If you have other chickens, they tend to peck Polish chicken's crests. I used to have a few red stars that would pluck off the crest feathers and I had to separate the two from the rest of the flock. They can get easily startled since they can't see very well, so if you make sounds before you approach them, that helps! They do well in confinement. I'm not sure if it's just my hen, but her tail feathers always get messed up.

I got my hen from Murray McMurray Hatchery, and she arrived very healthy, but the minimum order quantity is 15. You can also order from MPC and I found that the minimum order quantity for my area is 4 chickens! Here's the minimum order calculator: https://www.mypetchicken.com/catalog/BabychickMin.aspx You might want to order ahead by a few months, chickens there sell quickly!

They're really great chickens and I just love seeing them walk around the yard with their crests bobbing back and fourth!

Thank you! I only want a few, and I was wondering if they'd house well with my silkies. Right now I have them in what I call the broody coop, its much smaller than my other one, and its where my silkies can rear whatever birds I need without being bullied by some of my bigger breeds or turkeys. And since they aren't the best at being able to defend themselves or fly away as quickly, I don't free range the silkies and whatever chicks are currently with them, so they have a big tractor they love for the daylight hours, so I think it will be a good thing for Polish too since you said their feathers get in the way of seeing.

Shoot, I just checked, and the minumum was 9, and that's way to many for the coop haha. I think I'll try to see if anyone local is looking to rehome or sell me some fertilized eggs.
Actually, I think I had a genius idea, I'm going to see if one of my chicken friends will want to split the order with me.
Thank you so much for information, you're amazing :love
