I have 2 polish hens, who have started to lay VERY sparatickly. (sp?) anyway I was getting an egg every 2-3 days, now nothing for over a week! Is this normal when they first begin to lay? They are approx. 10 months old and only began to lay 3 weeks ago. I have a few fertilized eggs in the incubator and they are growing.

I'd look for a "secret" hiding place for the eggs... When my polish are laying, they usually don't interrupt. But they think about being broody, and they'll hide 3 or 4 eggs, sit on them for a day or two, then decide motherhood's not for them...

I had one go 2 weeks -- rescued the eggs and they finished up fine in the incubator.

Other option is, look for an egg eating predator like a rat or a snake, or even a skunk or possum if your coop isn't perfectly predator proof.
