My free rare chick from McMurray Hatchery this year is a Polish (I think). I've never had a tophat breed before, so I'm having trouble figuring out if it's a little boy or girl. We're calling it "Poofball Head" right now, which I think is pretty gender neutral

Any ideas yet?

Poofball Head just doesn't fit in with the sea of BLRW...

Yes it's a polish, but I say roo. The crest is a little crazy looking. Girl polish have nice round crests and the roos are all over the place. Those "free rare chicks" are almost always roosters anyway.

Hrm. I had hope it could possibly be a girl because McMurray doesn't sex their Polish. Last year our free rare chick turned out to be an evil Silver Spangled Hamburg roo - we had to cull him after he started attacking my face every time I went near the ladies. I have a feeling I can find a good home for Poofball Head either way though - Polish are just too dang cute!

He is very cute! I have a polish and she is really sweet. I hope poofball head is a girl, but like I said, just a little too crazy looking. Let's hope I'm wrong.
