Polish gender questions, please! *UPDATED with lots of pics!*

Don't read too much into it.

The best thing about gender-signs are that they are not set in stone. I see why you think that they can be roosters, but I really truely think in my gut that you have hens.

Faces are clear, crest is although in that uniformed shape, very poofy. Body shape is right for a female. Saddle feathering is not too long. I wouldn't worry about the tail. Nothing else fits. Penny looks almost identical to my Zuchinni. Coloring will vary from bird to bird. Zooks is the same color as Penny. I agree that if you had a rooster, you'd be seeing more signs. But both look likes hens to my untrained eye. BTW, without hijacking, do you have any pictures of this Sultan you mentioned?

Looks like a pullet to me. Polish are difficult though. At this point, you'd probably be seeing more pointed crest feathers if it was a roo. So right now I am fairly certain your polish is a hen, but I have had times where they *suddenly* seemed to change sex on me! LOL

I like the sultan too although I can't help but think that they are just Polish with feathered legs or maybe the other way around, lol. I don't have any of those yet but they are on my list...

Looks like two pullets to me By this age if it was a rooster he would have a red comb and yours do not. Sometime the girls don't get that rounded pom until later. We had a buff that was very light like that as well I wouldn't go by the color. My daughters polish have been taking their sweet time laying this time She has 25 week olds who havent layed yet but has a young pullet who has who can figure them out. JMHO you have pullets

No doubt about that Sultan.

I love the cresteds but sexing is a pain in the neck. For what it's worth, I prefer Sultans for their docile "I think of whoever raised me as 'Mommy' attitude". I certainly tend to notice the difference. Polish are a bit wackier and it's hard to de-sensitize them of any unfavorable behavior they may exhibit towards things that scare them. Sultans are

.

We thought our first Sultan was a pullet and turned out to be a cockerel. It took weeks to stop saying, "Good pretty girl!" and start saying, "Strong, handsome little man!"

In the northern areas up here sexing is made harder by the approaching cold weather. Less daylight means that new pullets have a greater chance of beginning to lay next spring, as opposed to a few times in the winter. Therefore it takes even longer to tell who's who. What hatchery did you get these birds from?

I love the Sultans for that reason, too! Chicky Baby is so sweet and mellow unless the others leave her alone in the yard. Then she sits there screaming like a little lost kid hahaha it's the cutest thing! I ordered her, Penny, my wcb Polish banty and my buff Brahma banty from MPC. The light buff Polish I got from another BYC member, I'm not sure what hatchery she came from.
