Polish hen with an eye problem?

Do I need to treat her and how?

Swollen lower eye lid w/o discharge. Although it doesn't show in the photo there is aslo some bloody spots mixed in the brown iris.

Normal eye.

She looks just horrible anyway (molting!).

She has just recovered from scaly leg mite and is full of energy despite of severe molting. I have treated her with Ivomec for mites and she also got Tylan in water and Albon before I figured out that she really had a a bad scaly leg mite (I am new with chicken). I think that she was propably anemic at one point. Her featherless head was almost white one day in the past!

She was also pecked by an Old English Game Bantam rooster before I separeted her from the other chicken. From now on I am only going to have Polish hens with other Polish hens. I just bought a new hen a week ago, and I am looking for a third one.

But do I have to worry about this eye problem now? Or is this a problem?

She may have just been pecked in the eye. Keep watch and see how she's treated in the pen.

HELP!

Today she is breathing her beak open and she sounds "raspy."!!!
She is sitting in her nesting box. She has not laid any eggs for a long time (since she got scaly leg mite and was separated from the mean rooster).

I gave her Vet Rx just a moment ago. I applied it straight from the bottle on the top of her head & gave few warm drops orally straight from the bottle).

Should I start her on antibiotics? Which one?

It has been a little bit cooler here in NC but my chicken are inside the shed/coop during the night.

I've mixed a couple of drops of ivermectin with the vet RX and given orally. That worked for my chickens raspy breathing. I did it for a couple of days. Cleared right up. Also gets rid of all parasites!!

Also my little hens eye started looking just like that. I think she got something tiny in it. I've been doctering her for 3 weeks now. The swelling got as big as a grape. Very hard too. I think finally we've got puss draining. I would watch her eye close, you don't want to go through what we are. Try to flush it out. You can boil very little salt in some water and cool.

At first glance - I think someone may have pecked her in the eye but the in your HELP post - this sounds like one of two things. Either she is stressed for some reason or hot or she may have a sinus infection starting. That squinty looking eye looks like it has puffiness under it and if so - I always start to err on the sinus infection or if she sounds really raspy - it could be coccidiosis. Has anything major changed? Even weather - get cool at night all of a sudden? Stress in the coop - new surroundings? Is anyone else sick? Any diarrhea?

I think you are spot on with the Vet RX - first thing I would have done. If she gets worse, I would put her on Terramycin and make sure somehow that she is drinking. Sometimes with the sinus stuff they won't drink normally. I think I would also separate her. If it is coccidiosis, you could have an outbreak and that would not be good.

Hopefully - she just has a bit of a cold and Vet RX miht help but I have such experience - unfortunately - with sinus infections and coccidiosis that I am pretty cautionary any time I see these symptoms you are describing. My fingers are crossed for you and your girl...
