I have had a polish hen for a couple of years ago and last year she lost her mate. We got a new roo for her about 6 months ago and she will not have anything to do with him. We have other coops where the hens give the roos a hard time but she is not having it. Any ideas?

Welcome to BYC and the coop! There's a lot of great peeps here! Feel free to ask lots of questions. But most of all, make yourself at home. I'm so glad you decided to joined the BYC family. I have never owned a polish, but I find them absolutely gorgeous. Sorry I couldn't help. Good luck with her though.

Glad you could join the flock! I too keep polish and they are a truly fascinating and unique breed to keep. Is it just the 2 of them or are there other hens too?
How long was she with her other mate? When you say she won't have anything to do with him do you mean she is attacking him or just staying out the way and won't interact with him.

Glad you joined us!

Sometimes hens take a little while to get used to a new rooster, especially if they just lost they're old one. Hopefully she will get used to her new mate soon. Enjoy your flock!
 
Maybe if you keep a partition between them (so he can't harass or try to breed her) she may come around after some time. She probably is lonely but may be waiting for her mate to come back. I think out of curiosity she may show some attention to the new roo. Maybe they will "meet cute," through the fence.
 
She does not attack him, she just stays away. We have just added 2 other polish chicks with them. She does not even roost next to him. When he is down, she is up and so forth. He is a very active bird. He is almost all black with white stripes on him and she is an almond color.
