Within the past two days my polish hens back toe has turned black. I have attached pictures of the black toe and the regular toe. I'm not sure what the course of action should be for her toe. She's started limping tonight and I'm worried. She's eating drinking and acting normal but her walking is off.

Any advice would be great.

Thank you!

I'm no chicken medic....but...
She may have tweaked it on something....sprain/strain.
Dark color could be bruise or necrosis, only time will tell.
Epsom salt soak couldn't hurt.

Looks like some raised scales,
could be the start of scaly leg mites,
might want to pack those with vaseline or bag balm or oil.

For limpers, this is what I do...
If limp is really bothering them by inhibiting their normal activities too much, I will isolate them in a crate to 'force' rest for a day or two. Letting them out late in day, an hour before roost time, to give them a stretch and evaluate their mobility, then decide if they need another day and put them back in crate off roost after dark. Repeat stretch and eval the next day until they are better. Keep crate in coop so bird can remain 'with' the flock.

I like to use a fold-able wire dog crate (24"L x 18"W x 21"H) with smaller mesh(1x2) on bottom of crate under tray.
Then you can put tray underneath crate to better observe droppings without it being stepped in. If smaller mesh is carefully installed, tray can still be used inside crate.
Can toss a chunk of 2x4 on crate floor for a 'roost' to give a break from feet being on wire.

That's all I got, the others tagged may have better diagnostic experience.

Thank you! It's really hard and black where as the other foot is soft and squishy. It feels awful like it's shrunken and has nothing in it (blood tissue wise). I treat them all once a week for any issues and they get soaked in Epsom. That's actually how I figure it out. She's been soaked for a week now and it's really looking dead. She also doesn't have scaley leg. I've had it on my girls before I think it's just the angle,h scales on her legs are all great.

Thank you again!

Can you get a better photo of the bottom of this foot?
It looks like there is debris stuck in the folds of the foot that needs to come out, also looks like a scab or puncture too?
For the black toe, if it's crusty, give her feet a soak in warm epsom salts, dry well and apply triple antibiotic ointment. Keep her on clean dry bedding.

Here are some more pictures. It won't bend anymore it's completely stiff. I cleaned her feet and soaked them again tonight. She's going to be inside in a soft bed.

Thanks everyone!

:thumbsup Thanks for the photos, it must have been dirt that I saw.
Try the soakings to see if that helps.
