I just lost my 11 wk old pullet yestarday. I was wondering if the heat may be the reason. She showed no other signs of illness. Please help I two more Polish and do not want to lose them.

My girl has done fine in 2 summers and it can range from 70-100 in the season. I notice her pant alot and keep her wings oven to circulate air so I always have lots of fresh, cool water for her. Sometimes I dunk her and a few other chooks in a bucket of water which seem to cool them off a bit. But only when it's really hot out.

I'm so sorry for your loss.

I hope someone else can help a bit more. For the sake of saying so, Polish aren't known for being 'robust' in any sort of weather. They have complications. I know my adult will get sick sometimes randomly in the year. She'll show sickly symptoms and then in the following hours she'll pick herself up and be totally fine.

i live in S.W. ohio, and were known for the crazy weather in southern ohio! Extremely Cold Weather and blizzard conditions one day, with High Heat Index's the next.. crazy crazy!

but, I know some people here that have Polish and do okay w.em

Mine do quite well with a good source of water and good ventilation. It gets up to 120 degrees here in the summer.

Thank you for the imput. I am not sure what is going on with the Polish. I have 64 other chicks different varieties and I am not having any problems. I guess the Polish will have to have a little extra TLC. I would hate to lose another. Right now I have another not acting quite right. I have isolated him and giving extra vitiams. This morning he looked better. Keep your fingers cross that he will pull through.

Polish (and Houndans too) seem really fragile. I have had trouble keeping those two breeds alive. They are unfortunately stupid, get eaten easily by predators, and aren't very hardy for some reason. But they are really cute and they are very friendly pet chickens.

I have never noticed heat being an issue for mine at all. I had one Polish chick die because she wouldn't eat enough--it was like she would get distracted after eating just a little and wander off, or sometimes she'd let the other chicks just push her out of the way and she'd walk off and peck the side of the brooder. I didn't think it was that serious, it was actually funny, but then she died and I felt terrible!

Well I ended up losing all 3 of mine by the time the weekend was over. Maybe they just didn't eat and drink enough. I gave them special attention after I lost the first one but to no avail. None of my other breed are having a problem.. They are hot so I did make more shade. I loved the Polish breed but I guess I am not suppose to have them. Thank you to everyone that gave me advise.

Well, I wouldn't give up that easily. Read up on it some more. Something happened, you just have to find out what. I had a mixed Polish die this weekend. I have no idea what happened but the rest are doing fine so far.

I might sometime in the future have some. But this is pure heartbreak for myself and my children. We consider our chicken as pets and to see them die is hard.
