After some thought, more reading and a failed attempt to hatch eggs from a flock that has not had any new genes added since it was initiated, I am beginning to think that yes some chicks do have compromised immune systems. But these problems are not related to breed but are the result of breeding practices. I am thinking that flocks that have not had any new stock added to them for many generations have immune, growth and fertility problems. I do not have any scientific research to back up this premise but if humans that practice inbreeding see similar problems it makes sense that other species would have the same results. So the cause of repetitive problems is not breed specific but specific to certain types of breeding practice.

LOL, I didn't cut their crests, they are still babies. I think they are 3-4 weeks old. Are their crests too small?

Sorry, didn't realize they were babies. I could see their eyes, and thought you did it!

I agree, Flower. I guess we all have to keep that in mind when we have a breeding flock. I might just have mutts from now on.

Gotmy polish!!! They are suposadly 8-9 weeks old. They are huge (LOL well compared to my 3 week old silkie chicks in my brooder kennel anyway!)

SO boys girls? I think i have 2 roosters and one hen- according to their wattles and ceres- and tail feathers. They have some bad shape feathers- and one roo and one pullet have bald spots on the back of their heads. Though the feathers are growing back in thankfully over it all.

They still are peeping no clucking.

So who wants two polish roo's in saskatchewan canada??? LOL
boy?
