Oh, and about trimming the polish's crest how short do I cut it? I've been told that if you cut it too short it will bleed. Is this true? Also, how long does it take for it to grow back?
Zaxby, I'll be interested in the info you get about mixing your birds together. I have mixed as well, and just got 4 buff-laced polish that are four weeks old now. I've just started introducing them to my 3-4 year old hens (hamburg, leghorn, cornish, sex link). They sleep together and have some time together in the morning, and are then separated (within the coop). So far so good; I haven't seen any really harmful aggression, just asserting themselves. The little ones (26 new) can run into their separate little area in the coop if they need to, and the big girls can't get in.

I trim my girls' around the eyes so they can see. I've trimmed short and never had bleeding. The cut feathers have to molt out and be replaced by new feathers, they won't grow.

Are all polish so flighty?? These five freak out every time I feed/water them. EVERY time. Wish they were a little calmer. They are bearded and SO cute! I love them
Now I hope I at least have 2 girls! Anyone have any thoughts on sex yet? I know it's pretty early but....
