What I did one time is I put a piece of duct tape smacked right on top of his head. It wasn't pretty, but it worked. And eventually it falls off. I use duct tape for saddles, too.

We have only had chickens for a short time but one out of the five is a beautiful Golden Laced Polish Chicken. JoAnne has the most amazing personality...very confident and tries hard to be the leader of the flock. It's hilarious because, no matter what attention-grabbing behavior she displays, the other hens don't even look up to give her the time of day! Even though she is confident she still is very nervous around humans. When I happen to touch her she usually jumps and runs off as fast as she can. I'm hoping by the time she starts laying she will calm a little, but if not she is a complete joy to watch running around the yard and bobbing her head about!

I would trim the feathers to protect them from being grabbed as easily, then after blue cote, keep him away from the gang for a few days (my opinion) and when you do reintroduce, goop his head up with Vaseline, then when the other birds go to grab, they get a mouthful of ointment that is just not fun in their beaks!

Good luck and I'm so glad that Polish are sweeties.

Thanks - I really appreciate the ideas here. He is fine this morning and looks a bit better now that his feathers have dried completely. I will take it a day at a time - and look for the vaseline!

I am in Western NC, 15 minutes southeast of Asheville, and I need to find a home for Annabeth/Andy, our newly emerged rooster. He is the white crested splash on the left in this picture. He is fine with people, but he has been picking on Rudy, on the right, and I am worried he may challenge our head rooster, Stevie, if we hang on to him. I HATE to see him go. He is a character, LOVES cherry tomatoes - is always on the run with one when I toss the treats in the run. Free to good home. Please PM me.
