A judge last year said to breed my blue Polish cock to WCB hens to improve the color. I have seven chicks from the combination--the oldest cockerel has a nice pattern. I don't know what to call it--cuckoo, maybe? I'll have to get a picture of him. Another is a white crested blue and her (I think!) color is developing nicely. The other five are still pretty young, but one appears to be white crested black and the others blue.

Thank you for responding :]
Thats a very interesting color combo you ended up getting !

My polish is WCBlack so do you think it would be ok if i mated him with a WCBlue? What do you think the offspring would look like?

WC Black mated to WC Blue produces WC Black and Wc Blue- no splash, no cuckoo, no other colors UNLESS what you have originally is not really a blue or black. Blues can vary from very light to nearly black with variable lacing. To get WC Splash, you must mate Blue to Blue or Blue to Splash.

I think it is quite difficult to sell show-quality Polish- their huge crests and poor vision make them very high maintenance. If one genuinely cares about the birds, one will not sell them to the casual person who thinks they are "cute" but will sell them only to people who are prepared to care for them properly. I could sell a lot more birds if I didn't care about their welfare.
I also think it is quite impossible to produce show-quality birds without showing at least occasionally. Unless you get outside opinions and see how your birds stack against others, you are likely to reproduce faults and have each generation get a little poorer than the (hopefully) good quality birds you started with.
WC Splash is not an approved variety, however, you will not produce this color from a pairing of WC blue and black. I would advise against breeding Polish unless you are genuinely committed to the breed- they are among the hardest breeds and the casual poultry person will do much better with an easier breed- less susceptible to chilling, mites, staining, picking, etc.
And, by the way, my WC Polish lay like leghorns- they are amazing layers.

Thank you for your feedback!
You definitely cleared alot of things up for me.
I heard polish weren't reliable layers (i guess this means some do lay very well but don't expect them all to be like that).
It probably has alot to do with where you get them from.

I would like to confirm that i love my birds and would not "sell" or give them to someone who i feel would not know how to take care of them.
Similar to how lots of people think puppies are cute. They want one, but in the end they end up being harder work then they had thought and end up being thrown away or not raised properly.
Thank you for caring enough to mention it though. Some people are just doing it for the money (i want to breed them because i love the breed).
I know that wanting to breed something because you love it can also be a contradictory. because, you run the risk of bringing more into the world with the possibility that they may not find good homes.
I have fallen in love with this specific breed. There are many concerns to think about though. So before i jump the gun, i will probably just hatch some for myself, raise them, get to know the breed more, then decide if i would like to become a "polish breeder" later on.
