Do the Polish handle areas that have hot summers like Houston, Texas area? It gets really humid too
Are they good egg layers? Do they lay eggs pretty regularly?
Are they used mainly for looks?
Do they make good meat birds if you need to cull some extra roosters n such?

Polish are not the best of egg layers & I would recomend them for a beginer.
They are high matinece fowl, & require dry areas, so they will be fine if the TX. heat, but do very poorly when it rains. they are very tolerant of the cold, so that is a plus in TX since our weather is so unpredictable.

They are not the best of egg layers but lay pretty decent, I average about 3-4 & some times more, eggs a week from my bantam girls this includes my 5 yr old hens. I have only heard of Large fowl polish laying as many eggs as a leghorn.

Polish have very little meat, I have only raised bantams, so I could not say for sure, about the standard fowl polish.

They are an ornamental fowl, so yes they are kept more for looks, & shows, rather than a barnyard egg layer.
Polish do not do well when free ranging/ roaming free.

They are easy prey to all oredators hawks, foxes,& dogs, racoons & opossumes & other non crested chickens.

I think they areas meaty as a leghorn, the Large fowl roos only average about 4-6 lbs.
& Bantams average weight is about 1.5lbs - 2lbs .

Have you considered the Brahbanther, or Appenzeller Spizthauben ???

Again, though, all chickens have different personalities.... like my polish isn't afraid of the dog: she actually stares at it through the cage and she doesn't flinch. She also lays an egg a day.

Thanks Josh44.

I have the Wyandotte chicks to raise for my duel chickens and will probably stick with them for that purpose. But I am considering a few Polish birds to have for fun/pet. I keep finding myself enjoying the Polish pictures as much as I enjoy the Wyandotte pictures. I also think the Crevacour is really cool looking.
