Honestly, none of them. If you just want them to look at, hatchery are fine and any that you buy from will work. If you want to show them or breed them, get them from a breeder. There is a WORLD of difference between hatchery and breeder Polish.

Makes sense....

Wish I could find a breeder that sells and ships chicks... It would make this so much easier

A. Think of all the anticipation and the fun of hatching. Think of when in those last few days, you will hear chirping. Think of camping out next to the incubator when they're due. Yes, I am a hatching addict, but pretty much under control, LOL

B. Get a few silkie girls, mine are broody all summer. Put the eggs under them. I usually get 3 volunteers that sit on the eggs. Do nothing. One day a little head peeks out-so sweet. Then you have no work involved. They are warm , well fed, need no brooder, taught all the right things, and the silkies will always think of them as their own children!

Okay, so I've never really done big showing i.e. going to state etc. Well this summer I think we're ready to go to state. Normally just a swipe of the hand to get all the hay off

This time though, I want to make an impression with a complete clean up. So now I'm just wondering, what do you do to your Polish to get them ready for the show. It's a few days long so obviously I'll be giving electrolytes but how do you clean your birds? What do you do? I'd appreciate to hear your routine. Thanks

Here are some suggestions a chairwoman of one show I was at gave for preparation.
1. Give your chicken a thorough bath 4 days before the show. Joy is good to use. Have 3 buckets...one to bathe in, next one to rinse and the last one put a little white vinegar in to cut all the soap residue off. Doing this early gives time for the natural oils to come back making the feathers shiny. Check closely for mites..etc.
2. Take a toothbrush and scrub legs and toenails.
3. Trim toenails and beak if needed.
4. Give electolytes (like you mentioned) but do not at least 12-14 hours before the show. Judges do not like one having a full craw.
5. Keep chicken in nice clean pen til day of show. Take baby wipes with you for last minute clean ups.
6. If there are any feathers out of place and can be plucked to so but only if it will not be noticeable.
7. Handle your chicken as much as possible before shows. Take it and turn it upside down...etc. This is some of the things the judges do so it will make your chicken more comfortable in having this done.
8. Show day--put some vaseline or there is another product I cannot think of the name...on the wattles, comb and legs.
9. Sit back and enjoy the show!
10. It may be wise to isolate your chicken several days after the show JUST in case it may have picked something up. Not everyone checks their chickens before showing or are new and just did not know they should do this.
Hope this helps....I showed for the first time and got BB..so..all of this must have worked!

I was wondering if there is anyone who keeps up with this feed that bought the Crele Polish eggs offered at auction back in Dec? Would like to talk to someone who did..curious of the results in what they received. Thank You!!

Thanks so much TN, I would have completely goofed with the craw! *self sticky note* No feeding 12 hrs. before* ~ Okay so for the bathing since I'm a total newbie with complete bathing, is there a special shampoo/soap you use? You mentioned Joy but I've never heard of it before. Also with the vinegar, just white? Any specific amounts? i.e. 1 TBS for 1 full bucket? (When I say bucket I mean like a regular home depot bucket)
