Fizz, my Polish Frizzle cockerel is the subject of my blog today http://muckycluckers.blogspot.com/ because he's moulted away all his tail feathers and looks .......... daft! Here he is in all his former glory.

Was this color created by using Spangled Russian Orloffs? I think I saw where a breeder of Tolbunts was using Orloffs to keep her lines strong. If so, what color of Polish would be best to use to get the desired color?
It was fun seeing all your pictures

Tolbunt Polish were imported over from europe. That is a available color over there. Once here they were bred together for several generations- with the limited gene pool there were alot of fertility, health, standard issues. Some of the original breeders crossed them to other colors of Polish, and some did an OUTCROSS to Russian Orloffs to add new blood in beause they had the closest color w/ closer type/comb to Polish than other breeds with the same coloring.

I just hatched out my 1st 5 Tolbunts!! (well 6 but lost 1) Have 6 more in the bator due tomorrow!!!

As said by eeyore.

When Tolbunts were first in the US (not very long ago at all, honestly) the first outcross done with them was to Orloffs, yes, however Orloffs did not create the Tolbunt. In fact the Orloffs ruined the Tolbunt in the US if anything. They have a completely different mottling gene, they're not gold laced like Tolbunts, and are missing several other traits; even their bodies are different, which result in birds like my smooth Tolbunt male having too small of a crest, too upright and tall of a body, and the wrong comb type.

There are some tolbunts that have orlorf in them & others that don't. It's one of the conflicts of the color, there are two diff ways to get the Tolbunt color.
that's probably one of the reasons they probably won't get accepted in the us.
No one can agree on it, some say orlorff & other say they didn't come from orlorff???

Hi illia how did your polish color crossings come out this year ???

Orcae, I've had 2 White crested black roos. Brothers who remained living together in the flock until their deaths (one brain damage, the other by dog). They were the best roos I ever had. They got along as long as the lower man would back down. They were brothers. I could pick them up any time I wanted. Very calm and good with the girls. My husband still talks about them.

Here is my girl, Polly....

One of my many "designer chickens" as my husband calls them!

She is so loving and chats up a storm. Should I trim her feathers so she can see better????
