I forgot to add that Cindy told me to use the painters tape to keep the crest up out of the eyes. Two weeks on and then rest the crest for one night and reapply in morning. MY little WCB is so wiggly that she had so much tape on her that I gave up after a few days and trimmed the area above her eyes and so far that has worked. Maybe if some one held her for me, I could have applied the tape better.

The tape can be purchased at any paint departments, Wallys HD Ace Hardware etc.

It's funny that you mention this because I've had to un-hook two in the last 2 weeks (they're about 5 weeks old). One in a milk crate and one from some wire. They both were very cooperative waiting for me to free them but I was wondering if there was an issue with this breed getting hung up that I should pay attention to.

BigDaddysMom,

I just looked at your profile, we are almost neighbors. My buff Polish just hatched 8 chicks today--finally! 7 look like buff and one little oddball is dark.

Did your Polish actually sit on eggs and hatch them?

I was waiting for someone to tell me what to use. We have lots of painters tape around with all this house remodeling were doing!

Hi Karen

Hope I got that right, not too sure which post goes with whom yet.

Anyway, yes my Buff Polish set and hatch their own eggs. I would have a lot more chicks if I would set up the incubator but just haven't done it--YET. I keep saying that and now summer is half over. My Gold Laced set and hatched a clutch last year. The gold laced filled up their nesting box but didn't set and now one of the hens has started her own clutch in a corner of the coop, so maybe she will set those. My silver lace hen decided to lay her eggs all in one place and kinda set them--two days on, one day off LOL I put another hen in with the pair and she set the eggs very faithfully but none hatched. My camera battery should be charged by now so I will go and get some pictures. Susan

Josh's picture reminds me of the sweet personalities of the Polish. My little WCP was only five weeks old when she took over the job of caring for the Bantam Buff Laced babies.
