Our polish roo has started to crow, very interesting sound! very low and deep. is that typical to this breed?

9 and 1/2 weeks old - I really do hope Ozzie is a girl, but what do you 'all think? No red in the wattle area, no desire to 'chest bump' or raise hackles around older cockerels. But the sweeping saddle feathers worry me.

My Bowser had sweeping feathers there and since shes the same age as the others laying eggs, and has absolutly no male personality traits I'm 99% sure she is a she. I think the males have less bushy head feathers, and they seem to be pointier, where as your bird looks very fluffy up there with more rounded edges? She reminds me a lot of my Bowser, staring at the walls like that ♡

Apenzellers are white, have more half moon tips, and no muffs or beards. They are beautiful, but a bit more wild. Might be good for those of you free ranging your flocks.

I doubt she has apenzeller blood. She has muffs and a beard, and doesnt seem too wild, in fact she can be pretty affectionate.

It does seem that Brabanters can come in a wide variety. From what I've read it's a bit of a challenge for the breeders getting quality standards but the thread seems to have gone rather silent.. I would love to have one someday closer to what the current standard is.

Wow that is pretty thinned out. It looks wet or oily. I think it may need a good wash and a blow dry.

Just a regular wash, like you would with a dog? Is there a special shampoo I should use, or should I just rinse well her crown well with water? Besides clearing up pasty butt, I've never given a chicken a bath before. :/  

I would try water first but if its oil that might not work. Baby shampoo is probably a good bet, I used it on my chicken butts before. I am worried a blow drier might freak out my babies but Ive seen some chickens in videos that seem to love it. At least try to dry it with a towel so it fluffs out and looks less tempting to pecks

They're goofy, spontaneous, and oh so sweet. They make me laugh every single time I see them.

I would also suggest baby shampoo but make sure it's organic and tear free. I haven't had to give my boy a bath yet but I have been watching videos on YouTube to prepare. Polish and silkies both need bathing on occasion because of their unique feathers. I would Google and then try to copy. Definitely use some shampoo though. I would for sure use the blow dryer to fluff up the feathers. That might be why they dried funny this last time.

She's crele. I purchased eggs from JustStruttin in California. Of the 14 eggs I received, 12 hatched. Phenomenal for shipped eggs!

gave Prescilla a bath tonight and discovered this on both eyes this eye was worse then the other. She is my only polish with a large puff that covers the eyes. So my question is what is this an how do I remove it safely and painlessly. It is not make up nor skin pigmentation.

I'm not sure. This might be one for the vet..
