Polish Thread!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi polish lovers, I have a frizzle that hatched on 30th May 2014. I believe it to be a pullet but it has feathers growing down the outside of its legs. I have to say since it hatched it has always had some but just lately they have become more prominent. It is not crowing or acting like a cockerel. Some of its hatch mates are cockerels and are crowing and are much bigger than this one. I thought Polish didn't have feathered legs? Any advice would be much appreciated.

Aren't other breeds worked into the stock to produce the frizzle? I hve read a few posts in which some BYCers mention they may try crossing a frizzle cochin with a polish to get the frizzle in their offspring, & cochins are a feather legged bird. I have also read that genes can take generations to make a surprise appearance- I think these chicks might be referred to as throwback or sport chicks. I don't know, i'm not a breeder & can't wrap my head around a lot of the breeding info, these things that I've read just came to mind when I read your post. Whatever the reason - that chicken is adorable!

My rooster is now 21 weeks old. He isn't doing anything roostery yet. What is is average age for polish to start doing their rooster duties? LOL

Hi everyone, was checking crests today and found my frizzle cockerel has got wet weepy area around his eye below his crest. It looks as though his crest feathers are pulling the crest down and stopping the area getting any air. Have trimmed his feathers back and given a good clean. ( good job he likes attention) Not sure what to put on to stop infection. Also don't really fancy tying his crest up as don't want him to start scratching and irritating the area. Any advice would be very much appreciated thank you.
