Polish Thread!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

LOL!  I spend way too much time proving that the roadkill babies are sleeping, not dead.  Customers freak at all the dead baby chicks.  :p

Lol..usually it doesn't bother me too much bc I'm used to all the crazy positions they sleep in, but this one definitely knows how to scare me..she did it again today..she sleeps more on her side and back then belly and side..and of course I want her to live bc of there only being the 2 so I am over protective of that one anyways..it does not make for a good combo, that's for sure

I had two chicks fall asleep in my hands a while back and my husband came around the corner and freaked out because I was holding two dead chicks.
It was pretty funny

I ordered a surprise package from cackle hatchery, in it it received 5 polish. All of the had crests that were about the same size until they were a few months old. It is hard to tell with polish because they have small combs. One of the polish chicks was a blue and looked much like the one in your picture, and turned out to be a Cockrell.

my first polish came from a surprise package from meyer. But I had a pretty good selection of birds. No two were the same. I got a really pretty cochin, but it passed :( All but two of the 8 birds I ordered passed. Dog attack

Ya my dog attacked and killed 13/14 of my birds. The only survivor of them was a sweet grey ameracauna who was smart enough to get on the shelf. When we recreated our flock to new birds brought a disease with them. In the end it killed off half the new flock. 0/14 of my old flock survived and I was forced to get rid of my stupid but loved dog twinky she wasn't very bright in the first place but I loved her. Luckily the day after she died we found a clutch of 8 of wormy's babies (my little brother named her) so ya great experience

I had a dog attack as well..unfortunately it was about 12 dogs from a mobile home park a few miles away that apparently the owner(s) let them all run terrorizing everything in a ten mile radius. My Silkies and Polish at the time were only about 4 months old and the dogs only got access to my layers..they killed all but 4 hens and a roo.. I immediately rehomed my silkies and Polish and moved my layers inside the barn on lockdown until the dog issue was taken care of .but seeing as how they killed 3 newborn calves and a couple goats down the road it didn't take long for all of us farmers to thin them out...haven't had an issue since and the owner of thst mobile home park no longer allows pets of any type. So I am starting over from scratch with hatching eggs from breeders.. I won't bring a live bird on my property bc I had a scare with a roo from a swap that had a respiratory issue a few years back.. I may be over paranoid but with as much time and money that I've put into rebuilding I'm not risking them for anything.
Best of luck with your new feathered babies ♡♡ and Welcome to BYC!! Its the best place, hands down, imo for not only great info and advice but great friends as well ♡ I've 'met' great breeders, backyarders like me, those doing other species like ducks, geese and peafowl. .but the one thing almost all have in common is that they are great people, always ready to offer help, advice and even eggs ♡♡ I think you'll love it here!!

That is horrible. Along we my dog killing my chickens i also have the neighbors dog who still attacks them. So far she has killed 5 ducks about a dozen chickens including my babysisters hand raised baby girl ,lily, and a turkey!!! My dad threatened to shoot the dog, so now she is locked up but gets out frequently. She has also attacked my other dogs. The last time she did that was 2 nights ago, but my big boy scared it away from my girl. Last week i let my little sister pick out a chick. She chose a silver laced Wyandotte that she named olaf

I'm sorry to hear all you guys have lost a lot of birds to dogs. We lost 1 hen to my aunts dog he has never touched them again. He got a spanking and sat in his kennel the rest of the day. Our Pitbull x Lab has never touched them before but she's a sweet heart.

Glad to know that somebody isn't having dog trouble. My little sister cried for weeks. The worst part was she saw it happen! The lady offered to pay for it and he said that $ doesn't heal a broken heart.

Around here, by law, any farmer or chicken owner can shot a dog for just chasing or barking at a flock. .I'm not that heartless, I love all animals and want to give them a fair chance..after all, they're just doing what comes natural... my pittie was just a pup when the pack attacked last year, not that any of my dog would have stood a chance against a pack like that :( but she is now almost 2 and is very protective over her feathered babies..she guards them from brooder to free ranging..♡♡ my boxer is too old anymore to chase anything, but we did just adopt an Affenpinscher from the humane society..poor guy is a little over 2 years old and had been there almost 2 year, but he's turning out to be a great little yard yapper..my closest neighbor has a pup that I'm starting to worry about, he doesn't listen to anyone or anything except my pit so hopefully he follows her lead..but if he does try to kill, they will chain him or rehome him , they are pretty good neighbors.
Also just a note, if you know who's dog killed your birds, they are 100% responsible to pay for not only the bird (s) killed, but in WV they are also responsible to pay for the eggs/chicks/meat that bird would have provided (depending on what you use your birds for)..
