Glad to know that somebody isn't having dog trouble. My little sister cried for weeks. The worst part was she saw it happen! The lady offered to pay for it and he said that $ doesn't heal a broken heart.

No unfortunately money does nothing for the heartache or pain. My daughter is 10, and we had an older splash Silkie thst was her 4H bird..she took her to meetings,camp, shows ..she got bathed and blow dried..she was a spoiled chicken..my daughter found her when she passed. .she was in her nest box and it looked like she went to sleep and never woke up..no where near as traumatizing as your situation but she took it hard..that's one of the bittersweet things about a kid growing up on a farm..they get to experience new life and all the joys but death is always here as well..we do rescue, mainly horses but also any livestock in need..we saved a medicine hat paint gelding a few years ago..he was already in his mid 20s which is older for a horse..we lost him 2 days before Christmas this past year..he was hers..and their bond was rock solid..he would let her do anything to him..he had pink painted hooves, dyed hair a few times and rocked pink and black tack like a boss.. he took her to her first show and walked away with 1st in every class..mind you, this is a horse that was in a kill pen a few years earlier with a body score of less than 1..1 is deaths door.. he knew we saved him, there is not a doubt in my mind..when he passed, he was surrounded by our family, 2 of our dogs and our vet..it was peaceful but it's never easy..no matter how many you loose over the years, that sting never gets easier..

Around here, by law, any farmer or chicken owner can shot a dog for just chasing or barking at a flock. .I'm not that heartless, I love all animals and want to give them a fair chance..after all, they're just doing what comes natural... my pittie was just a pup when the pack attacked last year, not that any of my dog would have stood a chance against a pack like that but she is now almost 2 and is very protective over her feathered babies..she guards them from brooder to free ranging..♡♡ my boxer is too old anymore to chase anything, but we did just adopt an Affenpinscher from the humane society..poor guy is a little over 2 years old and had been there almost 2 year, but he's turning out to be a great little yard yapper..my closest neighbor has a pup that I'm starting to worry about, he doesn't listen to anyone or anything except my pit so hopefully he follows her lead..but if he does try to kill, they will chain him or rehome him , they are pretty good neighbors.
Also just a note, if you know who's dog killed your birds, they are 100% responsible to pay for not only the bird (s) killed, but in WV they are also responsible to pay for the eggs/chicks/meat that bird would have provided (depending on what you use your birds for)..

I know I'm not too happy about it but she has killed almost 20 birds

I feel your pain I've had about 40 chick's and chickens killed by a cousins dog

Oh I'd be investing in a .22 or a well bred pittie or GSD..I'd let them know politely that your property is off limits to their dog(s), that your birds are valuable and that you will begin defending your property and livestock against all threats. Let them know that if it happens again, you will be seeking reimbursement for all damages..this is birds, fencing, vet bills, medications, etc..in our state if you are not willing or able to shoot a dog, the county police will do it for you..they will attempt to make the owner of the dog do it first and if they refuse, then the officer will..
Just remember that if your chicken steps on toe on their property and is attacked, there is nothing you can do.. and I realize how important it is to 'keep the peace' between neighbors..and I am not a quiet person by any means, I'm the person that will bust a strangers window out over a hot dog in a 90 degree car and then stuck around to chew that person out afterwards. .but I also don't go looking to cause trouble and like to keep a good relationship with my neighbors..and the shoes been on the other feet a few times here..my horses have gotten out and I found them in their yard and had a foster pup for a Boxer rescue here and she killed one of their chickens..I replaced it with 3..and told the rescue that day that I could no longer keep the foster pup here..
one attack is one thing..but from my experience, once a chicken killing dog has killed once..it will be back to finish the job..doesn't matter if it's a 3 lb chihuahua or 100 lb shepherd. .

My girl watching the ducklings on their first day outside. .the neighbors chihuahua was a good 100 yards away and Athena (my dog) did not take her eyes off them until they were both locked back up nice and safe ♡♡ nothing gets in my yard without me knowing. She was inside asleep and my rooster started squawking. .she went straight to the door and when I opened it she almost knocked me over..this was 1 or 2 in the afternoon..here a fox (I'm assuming a mom) came right down in the horse field and was trying to catch a chicken. She and the 2 other dogs chased the fox until I couldn't even hear them anymore and came back about an hour later and I've not seen the fox since.

Wish my dogs would do that. The only one who does do that is the one that some trigger happy guy down the road shot. Along with a bunch of other dogs. But he's on lockdown. That's my baby and he only leaves with supervision. The other two just bark for a minute and then ignore her.

What breeds are they? My boxer is a decent guardian but she's geriatric and senile..my bully is hands down the best for all my kids, biological, furred and feathered..BUT as much as I LOVE the breed, I also know how bad a situation can go if they are raised in the wrong hands..make sure if ever getting a bully as a pup, that you know the breeders..a lot of backyard breeders breed for the wrong reasons and you want one bred as a family dog from dogs raised in a family. .I could go on and on about the breed and how amazing they are, how they used to be bred and only royals owned them and they were royal children's nannies for years..or how the were the "American Dog" back in the day..but I won't lol
