That's a lot of posts but truthfully, BYC is just as addictive as the lil chicks themselves I used to like Facebook, now I'm lucky if I get on there once a month..but you can bet I'll be on here 500 x a day ♡♡ I've been a member for years but when I lost my old phone I couldn't remember any of my info so I just started a new account. .there are some amazing people on here..you will occasionally find someone who is rude, or thinks there's no way other than their way but thankfulky the good definitely outweigh the bad ♡♡ Glad you found us.. what breeds do you guys have? Do you have them for fun , food, breeding, etc? CrazyChickLady7, I know yours are pets like mine, but what breeds or just the Polish?

No i have many breeds. I ordered a surprise assortment from cackle hatchery, to add to the flock that i already have. My flock includes polish, cochins, EE, white rocks, barred rocks, delawares, new hamps, aurstralorps, brown leghorns,white leghorns, bamtams, turkeys, ducks, I don't believe anything has slipped my mind. I have quite a few birds, most of them are pets.

Oh wow! That's quite an assortment.. I've got my layers. .2 EEs and hatchery RIRs..then 2 Pekin ducklings and my chicks..Polish and Silkies. .those are the 2 breeds I will be focusing on..mostly paint Silkies and Tolbunt Polish..with pens of splash/blue and partridge Silkies and a couple pens of GL Polish.

I like having a variety. We used to have only leghorns, but it was all the same so.. Good excuse to get more chickens though!!!

Lol..that's my thoughts on it..I like variety but I also like 'different'..there are no good breeders local to me, and my daughter is in 4H and all the 4H offers for them to show are hatchery RIR, so I'm combining my love for different and breeding to hopefully be able to offer not only eggs and birds to others wanting to start Paints or Tolbunts but to also have a variety of chicks available for the 4H and FFA members around here..I'm also looking at some heritage RIR and have a breeder on the hunt for some eggs for me on those. .I just want to see these kids showing real reps of their breed and not hatchery versions..don't get me wrong, there's nothing wrong with hatchery birds..half of my layers are hatchery birds and they are great layers, gorgeous, friendly and healthy. .but they are still not true..I'm sure hatcheries offer plenty of breeds that are true to type (I have an order of GL Polish coming from one, but otherwise have never personally made a hatchery purchase)..
I don't expect to have quality breeders over night, I know it's something that I will be working on for years, but that's what I'd prefer. Instead of having mediocre birds immediately available, in 4 or 5 years I should be able to offer quality birds that some one can show without putting effort into breeding and fixing..if these chicks are excellent quality, then great, less work for me..but I set my expectations low so less disappointment..lol..
