can I get some votes on pullet or cockerel for my wcbp? Sexed as a female, but we had a plucking incident after she broke 2 blood feathers and now I can tell much by the puff and it's wonky and I'm having roo anxiety. This is from before. It always seemed uniform to me, she was 4 months here.
I was so excited to see how my silver laced polish turned out. But, we went a different direction for our flock
While I have not experienced this with Polish, I have with another breed. Took in a younger Lavender Americana Roo and introduced him to my year old flock of Silver Laced Wyandote hens, and the SAME thing happened to him. I felt badly and gave him lots of attention - then read the "chicken whisperer" on their behavior and discovered that showing favoritism causes more meanie bullying, especially to an "outsider", so I quit. I did, however, keep him separated at night for a week or so with mesh between them so they'd get used to him quicker but unable to harm him. Eventually, I put them back together and the bullying was minimal. Today, half a year later, he has successfully taken the Alpha Roo position and the ladies are his queens. All is well.I just took a 12 week old Polish into my flock from a friend who had to get rid of the cute little fella because she couldnt handle 3 roosters in her flock. I have 3 Barred Rock hens who are now a year and 2 months old. They are not addapting well to him joining the flock. They chase him around the run all day and he spends most of the day perched on the garbage can used for their food. Should I let them continue to chase him and eventually he'll get big enough to sass them back, or should I seperate him from the BR's and get him a Polish girlfriend?
