This "I don't care as long as I don't have to pay for anyone but myself" attitude among conservatives is very confusing to me as it seems in complete opposition to the "saving the country's declining morality through christian values" line that gets brought up at every turn. I was not raised Christian so perhaps I am confused but what about WWJD? and loving all your neighbors?

“If this is going to be a Christian nation that doesn't help the poor, either we have to pretend that Jesus was just as selfish as we are, or we've got to acknowledge that He commanded us to love the poor and serve the needy without conditi
on and then admit that we just don't want to do it.” – Stephen Colbert

"In 2014, the monthly penalty assessed to employers who do not offer coverage will be equal to the number of full time employees minus thirty multiplied by one twelfth of two thousand dollars for any applicable month. After 2014, the penalty amount would be indexed by the premium adjustment percentage for the calendar year."

So to me, it looks like if one carries fifty employees twelve months of the year, they will be paying two thousand dollars a year for twenty employees. After 2014, we don't really know what it will cost.

I've never refused to give someone a hand up but I have refused to give hand outs.

The more I read this thing, the more confusing it gets. I suspect no matter how one handles it, errors will be made.

This addage gets old... people do help the poor some just prefer that the government (which is not who Jesus was referring to when he said that BTW) not be the dispenser. See what churches actually give to the real poor in this world or better yet see what percentage people give on the tax role to charity instead of Uncle Sam.
