I guess for some, 80 years of living comfortably is preferable to the off chance that they might somehow break into "wealthy" status.

Again, the perspective is society as a whole, not the individual.

If this is your perspective then blaming society for mass shootings seems logical...

Remember, this country was populated by people who were not satisfied with the status quo. They were people willing to take a chance and willing to work. A good many of them came from Norway. To punish people for success is counter productivel

Norway was actually second to Ireland in losing it's people to immigration to the US about 4/5 immigrated here in the 20th century.

A mass shooting is a failure of one. Remember, Norway has had its share of nut cases doing awful things.

A mass shooting is a persons inabilty to value a life, hardly society's fault, when you are of the age of accountability you know right from wrong. Of course blaming someone else is easier.

I fail to see how this relates to anything. People are willing to work in many places. And I fail to see how reducing discretionary wealth by a small percentage is punishing anyone Punishment would be reducing your wealth to such a degree that you have difficulty functioning in your society.

An yes we need to bring back import taxes. A rich Texan was known for talking about the sucking sound of jobs going south. He was talking about the effect of free trade. He could not have been more right.

I also think we need to lose the income tax completely, lose the sales tax on food an then raise the sales tax on everything else to take up the slack. Other than food, we all chose how much sales tax we give the government. Works well for many states...
