Political Ramblings

What you'll find in many of the people who sign these petitions is that they've become tired of large population centers dictating everything in the state. I lived in downstate Illinois for almost all of my adult life. There are 2 Illinois, one is downstate and the other is Chicago. State politics there are ruled by Chicago. Pennsylvania has Philadelphia as their example. It is stated that all you need to do to win Pennsylvania is carry the 4 counties around Philly.

These are interesting times and the divisions need to be addressed.

This issue will not go away. I have a suspicion that a good many other states will follow suit.
These are not States that are instituting these petitions, it is relatively a few individuals in the State. You might be interested to know that regarding the State of Texas it gets more from the Federal government then it pays in to the Federal government in taxes. To me it is a laughable joke that is a kneejerk (emphasis on jerk) reaction to the election and will blow away just as quickly as it started.

As a resident of Texas, I also know that the last state budget was balanced with billions of Federal dollars. Also, If anyone thinks the majority of Texans would vote for secession, they have another think coming.

Some of the smartest people I know are conservative Texans, and they are way to smart for something like this to go on.

Behind every idea is a well intentioned motive. Ireally see no advantage to Texas suceding from the US other than a symbolic gesture but it does force the Federal government to address the issue and not ignore the states.

As for the rural urban divide it is that way in a lot of states we here are ruled by the portland metro area and get outvoted on issues all the time. Personally I think a lot of issues should never be voted on in a representative government...it is a piece meal approach to solving issues, one example is forestry related issues why does the state even employ foresters to manage the forests and then put management decisions up for a vote as if they were asking the peoplehow to manage the forests akin to asking them what they want for dinner, why have them?

Well we are all entitled to our opinions and the right to express those opinions.  Just don't be mad at me or other people when they do not agree with you.

I see where the petition for a peaceful withdrawl  of Texas from the Union of the United State of America has achieve a total of over 80,000 signatures.  This surely indicates that there is a tremendous divide in our society.

"Given that the state of Texas maintains a balanced budget and is the 15th largest economy in the world, it is practically feasible for Texas to withdraw from the union, and to do so would protect it's citizens' standard of living and re-secure their rights and liberties in accordance with the original ideas and beliefs of our founding fathers which are no longer being reflected by the federal government."

You can add Louisiana to that list. It's a mess over here with the Louisiana residents. :/
