poll: are you legal or an outlaw?

Outlaw. My coop is too close to my property line. My nieghbors don't care but technically illegal. I can't wait to retire and escape the city. Only 30 more years...

I'm legal! As long it isn't too close to my neighbors house, 20 feet? I can have as many hens as i want... no rosters though.

This is what I found out for you from the Reading PA Zoning Ordinances.

§27-608. Prohibited Uses, General.
The following uses are expressly prohibited:
A. Those uses that are not listed in a zoning district schedule shall be prohibited in that zoning
district.
B. Any purpose that is or may become obnoxious or offensive by reason of odor, dust, smoke, gas,
vibration, illumination or noise or that is detrimental or injurious to the public health, safety or
welfare or used for any purpose that constitutes unusual public hazard due to fire, explosion or any
other similar cause.
C. The open dumping or burning of trash, garbage, rubbish or other waste products.
D. The housing and/or breeding of any animal, domesticated, feral or wild, not normally considered a
family pet. See the separate Animal section of the Codified Ordinances.
E. Notwithstanding any other provision of this Chapter, no use may be made of any land or water
within any zoning district that adversely affects the activity at the Reading Regional Airport.

PETS – for the purpose of this Chapter, “pets” means any number of animals traditionally found in a
household for the enjoyment, companionship and/or protection of the family. Pets means an animal legally
obtained, such as from a licensed pet dealer. Livestock, including but not limited to, horses, cows, goats,
chickens and other poultry and foul, indigenous or exotic wild animals such as opossums, skunks, raccoons,
squirrels, and endangered, threatened and protected species are strictly prohibited. See the Animal regulations
of the City’s Codified Ordinances.

So if North Reading is also Reading PA then you are not legal I'm sorry to say. Time to take it to the board and get some changes made I would say. Good Luck!
