I use fermented feed for one main reason: that my chicken would have beneficial or neutral bacteria on a daily basis to outcompete pathogens and disease microbes of the gut. It's like how we humans eat yogurt to maintain a healthy population of gut bacteria.

As for the nutritional benefits, they probably exist. I read a science article about an experiment showing higher nutritional values in fermented feed. But, for me, the nutritional benefit is secondary to the safeguard against gut pathogens (ex. Cocci, salmonella, etc).

I would like to someday.
I'm new to chickens but I have been doing and over night soak for a month and can say that I noticed less of an odor even though we've had a lot of rain/damp weather. I would like to try fermented feed someday. My husband thinks I'm nuts for complicating things and asks why can't you just throw some feed like everyone else.
