I'm wodering whether my roosts are too close to the wall or not. What is the distance supposed to be from the roost to the wall ?

Do your hens face the wall of the coop or into the coop when they roost at night? Mine always look so cramped in there and despite ample roost length, most of them squish together towards one side of the coop. Funny little buggers, aren't they?

We bought our coop from Horizon Structures and I'm afraid the roosts are just too close to the wall. What do you think?

Ya! my chicks all squish together at night. but their roost is in the middle of the coop. And they all face different ways. My silly little darlings!

It depends which wall the roost is on! If the roost is on a boring old wall, they face in towards the coop. But when I have a roost right in front of a window, they face out!

Interesting. How far are your roosts away from the wall?

It varies - but generally about 12 - 15". I usually also have another, lower roost about 15" further out. But very few chickens ever want the lower roost. They'd rather all squish in together up high!

Ours is 18" from the wall which is recommended to prevent the wall from getting dirty and not bending or damaging feathers. I would think bantams may not need as much room from the wall unless they have really fancy and long feathers.

Our 5 all spread out except for the 2 BO pullets who scrunch together in the tightest corner they can get into.

I have the same coop. Mine sleep facing the 2 windows in the front. They do seem to squish to one side, but I don't think they're too close to the wall. I've only had this coop a few months though.
