I think breeding is too fluid to really do something like that. Every time someone chooses a mating, they're exerting their own ideas on the birds, and in time will either make them better, worse, or keep them roughly similar.
Now, I feel like there are some ethics involved. If someone asks me where I got my birds, I'm not going to just say, "Bred them myself!" and leave it at that. I will talk about who I got my stock from and roughly how long ago that was, as it seems the proper thing to do. But, on the flip side, people obtaining some birds from what could be considered a good line, breeding them poorly, and then advertising, "Well-Known Breeder Chicks For Sale!" simply to make more money is pretty crappy, in my opinion.
A lot of folks I know would not want to stamp their line with their name because once it's out of your hands, you have no idea what someone is going to do with it.
