POLL TIME When did you start driving a car?

I did learn to ride a bike when I was 5. Where I live a bike is perfect to go to school , move around in town and nearby villages, and do things with friends.

Btw, I did learn to ride a car with clutches. Had cars with cluthes all my life until we bought an electric car 2 years ago.

I ride a bike more often than going by car. For shoppings (5 minutes) , to go to work (10 minutes). And last year I crossed the river with my bike to buy fertilised eggs from someone with bantam RIR chickens.

The car is for longer distances or to carry loads.

That sounds great. I went to Belgium this summer and I fell in love with the walkable cities there. I've never seen so many bikes.

So happy that you learned though. Where I live it would be a great handicap not to be able to. No mass transit or cabs. I would be stuck home. I was always glad I learned young. I have driven a School Bus for 38 years. It has been my livelihood and I would not have that job without learning to drive. I am still doing it and blessed to be able to.

I had no choice. I have birds to feed and like almost 45 minutes outside of town. I had to drive to get a job

I started driving when I was fifteen, because my parents wouldn’t let me before then. They say they were just following the rules, but I think they were too scared.

Same. I was pulled over 2x and now absolutely dread it ever happening again.

I haven't been pulled over either. I don't drive fast because it screws up my gas mileage.

I'm a Sunday driver now too.

Learned to drive about age 10 or so.
1957 Ford pickup, standard, in the pasture.
By age 12 I was the driver, in the field, when hay Hauling.

I knew how to drive when I was 15 or 16 but didn't get my license until 18. In Ohio, you have to take a driver's education course if you are younger than 18 and my mom and dad couldn't afford to have all three of us in the class so we waited until 18 so we didn't have to take the class. My older sisters or parents drove us to work until we got our license. Then I bought my first car just a few months after I got my license, paid for it all by myself, including the insurance. Loved that car, 1999 purple Plymouth Neon

my dad had a beater/work car that mostly sat in the driveway that i started taking out for joyrides when i was 14.

back then you got your permit at 16 and license at 17 in new york.

i thought i was slick, but he knew i took it out driving.
