so, can we safely assume chickens don't really spread diseases? I'm in your camp. I think.

IMO.

Well I'm sure I've eaten my chickens' poop on occasion, because I don't wash the eggs. But I have not been ill from it. I think from now on, I'll consider ourselves immunized. I think that's a good idea.

But, I'm still wondering if anybody else has experience with "catching" diseases from chickens? That last post about campylobacter via dog kisses from chicken poop eatin' dogs is a good one.

I think hystoplasmosis can be grown in several years' pile up of bird poop if kept in a moist shady space, but I don't think I've ever heard or read of somebody getting sick from their (or their neighbors') chickens that way.

Well, the poop doesn't really go through the eggs. My sister would (she moved away) get sick from chickens, only because she was allergic to their dander. What I'm worried about is getting my chickens sick when I have a cold.

Really? But that's why we have No Trespassing signs on our gates. It seemed a good idea from the APHIS brochures and posters. Plus, it gave us a friendlier way to tell kids "get off my lawn", as it's protecting our pretty chickens safe from colds & flu. We have 3 gradeschoolers and their little visitors, and I keep handwipes at the gate with spare rubber clogs for visitors to wear.

But, if its really not possible to pass our virus' to our chickens, I'm not tellin'. I kinda like this increased privacy.

People can carry avian disease on them, so what you are doing does definitely serve its purpose.
Who knows what kids get on themselves.
I know when i was a kid, i use to dissect road kill out of curiosity....now that i look back on it...that wasn't a very smart thing to be doing

Anyway, you don't know what people can bring on your property, so, you can keep the same regulations without having to lie

We just can't give OUR human colds/illnesses, to them.

Ok, I'll bite. A person can transmit a chicken borne disease to another person. Here's an example:
