Poll-Which are better mousers Male or Female cats

i'm also going with personality.... but i will say my bottle raised cali, Peep, wouldnt be caught dead with an icky MOUSE! while our found-boy, Nicholas, has 'mouse stompers' the size of my german shepherds paws. at 4 months he was a professional mouser and a good one at that. hands down our best hunter is one of the barn cats even tho we feed him tons of canned food.

I have always had lots-o-cats. I say females. Not all cats hunt. I too believe that it is taught or a trait. I also know that the girls love to bring me presnts. Mice, moles, baby rabbits, chipmunks, baby birds, and once a bluebird male. That one made me weep.

I agree that is depends on the personality of the cat. I have had one male and one female that were AWESOME hunters, then one male that would sniff noses with a mouse before walking off, a female that could care less, and a couple others (both male and female) that were occasional hunters.

Best mouser I've had is my 16 year old female tabby. Until the last 2 years she would bring me mice, rats, birds, snakes, full sized rabbits, squirrels.

Even now with arthritis in her back she will sit outside our shed and wait, wait, wait unmoving until a mouse comes out. I've never known anyone or anything that can set as still and as long as her.

Here's the tally so far,

Female Cat: 20

Male Cat: 15

Muscovy Duck: 1

Seems like it is leaning towards female cat.

My female cat, Marlee, is an awesome mouser!!! In the tack barn right now (Just from this morning) is a gopher and a dove

When she was lost for three months, we rarely saw a dead bird or gopher and when we found Marlee again, the gophers and birds started appearing again, everywhere
