Poll-Which are better mousers Male or Female cats

Haven't found it to be a gender issue. The best mousers I've ever owned have been feral kittens that were tamed. They apparently were taught to hunt and survive by their mommy. Every single feral cat we have owned are hunters. Currently have 4 of them. Once tamed, they are no different than a regular cat. My other advice, keep it well fed. A well fed cat has more energy, and tends to stay at home more.

I would say that females are also better mousers. I had a tom once that would catch them real well, but always lost them when he tried to play with them first

For me it is my female. But it could also have been a breed and upbringing issue. My male is a full blooded Siamese I bought from a breeder and my female is a calico that I got from the pound. I'm pretty sure they had been ferral. It took me forever before she would let me hold her. She still prefers to spend 90% of her time outside even tho she can come and go as she pleases.

I own 3 males and 1 female. All 4 are great mousers. Mostly female cats mouse better, probably because they know they might need to feed a litter.

My cats also kill: moles, voles, rabbits, (wild) birds--they know I'd skin 'em if they went after my chickens.

the best hutning cats that ive seen are female. my male cat (elvis) is scared of anything that moves. he did get a squirrel that was in my quail pen though. but he doesnt go looking for things to catch

my female is the best hunter of my three cats. One of my males is good when he bothers, which isn't often. The other is just pathetic and would starve if we didn't feed him. 'Stealth' is not a word he knows.

On the other hand, my friends had a male cat who was an excellent mouser until he died at around eighteen years. He had no teeth by the end and would gum chipmunks and little critters to death. Not pretty
