Ok so it is 9pm, the sun is going down and my 15 week old pullet is running around singing the egg song. Super loud and first time I've heard it, which is great. She did it for about 10 minutes and then stopped. Now she ran around the other side of the house and hanging out there and is trying to fly up to get in the closed kitchen window. She has never done this before. They always head off to the coop and put themselves to bed. But launching yourself into the window? Is my chicken crazy? Puberty

She trying to find a nest to lay her egg in.

Look for one on the coop floor below the roosts if she didn't lay before she went to roost.

Oh dear, I went out to see again why she's making a fuss near the kitchen window and in the time it took to get out there, she's gone. And now no noise to follow either. The freestanding nest box we have is empty and I'm getting a little frantic as I don't have any idea where she'd go. I really didn't expect this to happen at night. I hope she makes it back to the coop.

Now it is totally dark and the other girls are back in the coop. I've looked around everywhere with a flashlight. I don't think chickens are mobile at night right? If it's unlikely she will make her way back, I'll have to lock them in without her. I guess we just have to hope she can make it through the night without predators. I hope it is going to be alright, we raised her from a baby and she is the first one getting ready to lay. I was so happy to hear her sing and now so sad I can't find her

It's bawk bawk bawk BGAWK, really loud, and repeating. If you search on here for egg song, someone posted a link to a sound bite on youtube.

Yay everyone! She was waiting for me on the patio (where she was last night) when I got up. Now she's running around doing the egg song again. Phew. Don't know where she was or whether she laid or what but I don't care
