Pollo Palazzo. The New Coop.

I really like your roost design. Is the poop board also removable or only the roost? I'd love to see more detailed photos of how you designed it if you have any.

I got the basic design from My Pet Chicken it's the Daisy design and they make one smaller like this one. The design is easy and simple to build and instructions were very helpful. I modified a few things that brought the cost of the coop up a little buy it was worth it.

The poop boards are removable for cleaning but using the Sweet PDZ I can just pull out the poop with a cat litter scoop.

Chickens are smarter than some people give credit. Give them a couple times coming out by themselves they will realize to go in by themselves. We have a light that goes on just as its getting dark, chickens don't see well in the dark so the light draws them in. The light stays on 30 minutes long enough to settle in then goes out. The adults have learned this practice but babies or newbees have to be taught. I love this coop you did a beautiful job. Luck birds.

The light trick was exactly what I was thinking of trying. I'll try a flashlight tonight and see if it works. I noticed today that the girls were going up the ramp on their own so they might go in on their own.

I'd like to find a small solar powered loght that I could put on a timer for the coop. I haven't been able find exactly what I need yet. Any suggestions?

I tried the light in the coop trick for a few nights but they still haven't figured it out. I have to go out there after dark and round them up and put them in the coop; I fell like a chicken wrangler. One thing I have had to do is put a flashlight in the coop while I'm rounding them up or they all try to run back down the ramp.

I've noticed recently that they have been running up and down the ramp during the day so hopefully they'll eventually figure it out.

They don't have a roost outside yet so I'm going to put one up today. It might help them to start roosting in the coop where they do have a nice roost with poop catchers.
