I knew it was going to happen at some point, but I don’t regret putting a pond in the coop. I like the idea that incase my boy gets a prolapsed penis this spring(first flirting season) we might have a better chance at keeping it from drying out by having access to water close-by before I can get home and treat it.

Anyway...I got two more eggs today, but one was found in the pond. Now I empty their pond every morning, but the water is of course filthy and smelly. My logical mind says to simply wash off the eggs, put them in the fridge, and as long as you cook the eggs all the way through there won’t be a problem. Plus I do not like runny eggs. And of course if I bake with it, the temp should be in the 350-400 range which should kill just about anything. Is that in fact the case?

Either way, I penciled the word “pond” on the egg so I can plan appropriately.

Looks nice an clean. I don't usually eat an egg that has been in the pool or in the mud but that's just me.
Im just curious.. it they are laied in water would it affect the bloom on it.. does it need to dry to be an effective seal or is the egg sealed even if it doesnt dry?

When I wash my eggs, the cuticle is easy to see as it is darker and discolored compared to the egg and easily rubbed off. The pond egg didn’t seem to have one on it, or because it didn’t dry and become discolored, I couldn’t differentiate it from the egg.

Well I know washing them in water can remove the bloom not sure if laid in water would be but maybe, I'd rather not take the chance since the pond water is usually pretty dirty.
Thanks Miss Lydia...
I wouldn't take the chance either.. i was just wondering if it affected it.:)

Pretty eggs now you watch you’ll probably get eggs that color because the girls will think they are suppose to lay that color. Jk of course. Talk about funny a lot of times my Runners will just drop an egg as they are umm running to keep up with everyone. They can’t be left behind even if about to give birth and they are going on 3 yrs old now:hmm
