Pond plant help

[The Lakes]

We have a new (voluntary) addition to our flock of 17 (chickens and turkeys), now 18. A juvenile green heron. We have a small pond we are stocking with feeder fish and would like to put aquatic grass or some kind of plant that is safe for all the birds. Agriculture Zone 9. Any ideas? Thanks! (This is not the pond )

I think the green heron eats fish. Duckweed-water hyacinth-water lillies-cat tail. I am sure there are many more.
