only feed costs for my latest batch of 25 Cornish X chicks ... Current feed cost at $16.29/ 50 lbs. /20% protein bag

/ 50 lb = $0.325 / lb.. Total feed consumed by 25 straight run chicks for 30 days = 110 lbs x $0.325/lb = $35.75.

Total Dressed carcass meat per chick at 30 days = 1.8 lbs /chick x 25 chicks= 45 lbs. of meat. in freezer camp.

$35.75 cost of feed / 45 lbs of meat= $0.79 / lb. for the 30 day wonder Cornish Game Hens.

This is NOT counting purchase price, fuel, power, housing, equipment, labor , etc. ... and this is for the most feed to meat coversion rate chicken for all chickendom.

I am going to have to butcher a batch of mine at 5 weeks sometime. I haven't yet because it's tough for me to leave that much meat off the table. That's an excellent FCR.

My 23% is running $10.60/50# (21 cents/pound) I've been feeding right at 60 pounds/day. I can't complain about my feed prices when I see what everyone else is paying now.

They vary from less than a week to less than a week from going to freezer camp. I get 100 chicks every other week. I get str8 run, and will be processing the boys at 7 weeks and the girls at 8 weeks. THis week will be our first butchering date. I'm definetly ready to start dwindling down the mouthes to feed.

I have 80 that are going to processor Thursday. My total feed was 1300 pounds. My price per pound of feed was $0.20. That is $260. We have had a really nasty april with lots and lots of rain. Darn near every day and the avg temp was 38.

But the last 2 weeks they have blown up on pasture. I am hoping for avg weights of at least 4 lbs dressed. I am expecting small because of weather. And at $4 per lb I will still make money.

My next batch has been in the brooder 3.5 weeks and head out pasture this weekend. They have only consumed about 170 lbs of feed and are plump as could be.
