** Pony Is Colicing ** Final UPDATE #64

Im going to walk her all night with 15 min breaks (for me)
I dont think we have and probious but i will look.
The vet has not seen her but if she has not improved by morning he is coming out.Push come to shove i can call a friend and have her come pick her up.

Just got back from walking her for 45min.
She has pooped again and wants to eat grass.(im not gonna let her)
She doesn't appear dehydrated but i will try to get fluid in her via suringe.

Just got back from walking her again.Im going to let her rest and see what happens.Im checking on her every 15mins to make sure she doesnt go back down.
I dont want her getting to exhaused from the walking just incase things turn bad.

Im hearing lots of gut sounds so that really good !

Good Luck. A great web site for horses is "The Horse" Magazine. They have mult. articles on all horse health. Some Webinars on colic. I've had a couple colic on me in the past 25 years, it's not fun.

You'll get lots of "research" done tonight.

Gut sounds are a great sign ! Means nothings twisted up and trying to push it's way through . Over the years we've had a few colic , the only advice I can give you is we used mineral oil...poured it down their throats and walked the night away . If it is very sandy in your area , you might have more serious problems , never dealt with it myself , but have heard some bad stories . Thought I'd post and give my 2 cents seeing as how everyone up here was kind enough to give me theirs on my issue . I'll keep good thoughts for you.....

Thanks "UWW" She is on a sand lot most of the day and turned out on grass for the other half. She does however get a cup of medamusal once a week to clear out the sand.I do this because thats what the vet suggested to me when i first got her.Im going to collect the next poop and put it in a jar with water and shake it up ,then see how much sand is in the bottum.

She's still hanging in there

I too have some advice for you. We used to give our colicy horses a lg BEER, yes beer. Like a 40 oz size. And walking. Something about it works. We have had to use this method several times and it does work. We even used it on one of our colicing horses at school. My teacher looked at me strange when I told him what we do. We used it and saved the horse. Anyways,It is cheap and most people have it on hand. I hope the pony pulls through, sounds like shes on her way. Good job~ Tacey
