My hens had those larger than usual poos just before they laid their first egg ever, and then again when they lay their first egg after not laying for a while. (They take a break from laying due to molting or whatever). I figured it was sorta like this first egg in a long time was leaning on the fecal tract and causing more than usual poop to get pushed out. Kind of like lightly squeezing the toothpaste tube at the top of the tube, as opposed to starting down at the bottom of the tube and tightly squeezing all the way upwards along the tube.
Don't know if that's a real reason or not, but that's how I reasoned it out.
