Poo eating chickens?

My chickens peck at everything! i covered up the pine shavings with puppy pads and they scratch and start eating at the pine shavings. then their poo in very dry and they peck at that and eat it. i try to stop them but i cant watch them 24-7 is this ok or how can i stop it.

I don't think it's a problem.

I think I heard once that they actually can recycle some calcium from their own droppings.
