Poo in the garden - WOW

Quote:
State Ag Universities publish manure guidelines. Simple version? Do not apply raw manure 30-60 days before planting. In other words, from October through April, apply at will, but if you plant your garden in early May, you should have ceased raw manure applications 30 days earlier.

Here's a guideline link I really like: http://www.attra.org/attra-pub/manures.html

During
the growing season, it is best to pile it up, employing composting techniques, if you wish. Or, just pile it at the end of the garden and spread it in fall, after harvesting is done. Easy.

Just my opinion, but I would not put poultry manure on my garden that has not composted for at least a couple of months--frankly I prefer longer. I cover of my compost piles with large tarps to help it "cook." The only manure I would ever put on plants in a fresh state is worm castings or rabbit droppings. Neither of those will burn the plants. Although I run the rabbit poop through the worms for the most part anyhow. At this stage I am composting for next year's garden as this year's is 90% planted.

Mulching is the key to a weedless have garden and when you have poo infested straw it's even better! My plants are undeniably bigger and better when mulched with "poo straw"
